Geospatial World Forum 2023

Geospatial World Forum 2023

Geospatial Caravan – Embracing One and All

This year’s Geospatial World Forum was held in Rotterdam during the first week of May. Traditionally, the General Board Meeting (GBM) of the European Umbrella Organization for Geographic Information (EUROGI) takes place during this international conference. As a member of the German Umbrella Organization for Geographic Information (DDGI), Benedikt Gräler (52°North General Manager and Head of Research) attended the GBM as DDGI’s European delegate. In addition to the regular business of a GBM, EUROGI also signed an MoU with EuroGeographics to cooperate in promoting the use of geospatial data [1]. Ben was also part of an EUROGI discussion panel on the topic of current advances in AI for geospatial application. The discussion focused on what future developments might look like, building on the capabilities of large language models (LLM) like ChatGPT.

AGILE Conference 2023

Spatial Data for Design

This year’s AGILE conference will be held in Delft, the Netherlands, from June 14-16, 2023. It’s focus on Spatial Data for Design emphasizes the links between GI science and various design activities, such as addressing data needed for spatial planning, and also spatial data used in the preparation and evaluation of various designs of human created objects (buildings, roads, dykes, parks, etc.). 52°North’s Arne Vogt highlights the co-design process, i.e. the interaction of scientific researchers with co-researchers and software developers in the co-design process.

Geospatial Caravan: Embracing One & All

GWF 2023 will be held in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, from May 2-5, 2023. This event brings together the global geospatial community, including government and public sector, industry, academia, and civil society. They work together to simplify the technological, institutional and workflow complexities and increase the impact for the benefit of society.

52°North’s Benedikt Gräler will present work done in the I-CISK and DIRECTED projects. He focuses on connecting data and models for better climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction. He is also part of a panel on Digital Twins (DTs) as seen from a geospatial perspective, and AI and Geospatial.

Cos4Cloud Final Meeting

Cos4Cloud Final Meeting

Great project results – open resources for citizen observatories!

The Cos4Cloud research project recently held its final meeting in Barcelona, Spain. During the two intense days, the project consortium met in person to share all achievements, discuss how to take advantage of the project’s results, evaluate the role in the EOSC and maintain the citizen science communities created! Members also reflected on how to sustain the technological services, the co-design and the educational methodologies and strategized about how to keep collaborating.
