Description: OGC OWS 8 testbeds are part of OGC's Interoperability Program, a global, hands-on and collaborative prototyping program designed to rapidly develop, test and deliver proven candidate specifications into OGC's Specification Program, where they are formalized for public release. The content of OWS8 initiatives are organized around threads which include Observation Fusion, Geosynchronization (Gsync), Cross-Community Interoperability (CCI), and Aviation.

SOS for the Global Runoff Data Centre

Description: Within this project 52°North has implemented a customised Sensor Observation Service (SOS) version for the Global Runoff Data Centre (GRDC). The GRDC operates under the auspices of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and is hosted by the German Federal Institute of Hydrology. The resulting SOS has been adjusted to the existing database of the GRDC in order to serve river discharge data for a large number of rivers worldwide.

Description: Within this project 52°North conducted a feasibility study for the Service Centre Information Technology of the BMVBS (DLZ-IT BMVBS). The aim was to analyse the capabilities of the Sensor Observation Service (SOS) to serve near-real time tracking data. The result of the project was a specialised SOS version capable of delivering near-real time ship tracking data from the Automatic Identification System (AIS) for the Weser River in Germany. Furthermore a WMS proxy was delivered in order to integrate the SOS as a WMS layer in legacy WMS clients.

Earth Observation and ENVironmental modeling for the mitigation of HEAlth risks

Time frame: 02.2010 to 02.2013


Description: The project contributes to a better understanding of the complex relationships between environmental changes and their impact on human health. It aims at monitoring changes induced by human activities, with emphasis on atmospheric, river, lake and coastal marine pollution. EO2HEAVEN follows a multidisciplinary and user-driven approach involving public health stakeholders who work closely with technology and service providers in both the earth observation and in-situ environmental monitoring domain. The result of this collaboration will be the design and development of a GIS based upon an open and standards-based Spatial Information Infrastructure (SII) envisaged as a helpful tool for research of human exposure and early detection of infections and potential health endangerments.

Description: Within the OWS-7 project the 52North Sensor Web community is involved in the development of event architecture components for the Sensor Web. Also, we are involved in the development of an SOS for motion imagery data.
