52°North recently opened its doors to a group of 12 international students and two staff from the University of Twente, The Netherlands. The students are involved in a two year program, in which they learn to address large-scale and complex societal challenges by combining both technical and socio-economic knowledge with a strong basis of spatial data analysis and modelling. At the end of their first year, they complete a study tour throughout Europe, visiting institutes, universities and companies active in Spatial Information Science, Technical Engineering and Spatial Planning & Governance.

This online webinar introduces GeoAI and opens discussions on the revelance of current trends for data.europae.eu. 52°North’s Simon Jirka presents examples form the KISTE and MariData projects.

Open GeoHub Summer School 2022 – a great success!
KISTE project workshop: “Open Source solutions for Earth system data (R, OSGeo, Python)”
OpenGeoHub’s Summer School 2022 took place from August 28th – September 3rd virtually in person(!). As in the previous events, several experts from various disciplines around open source software and open data were invited to provide lectures for researchers who would like to improve their analysis and modeling skills. In total, 17 lecturers came to teach 40 participants. 52°North co-organized the event as part of the KI:STE project and contributed to the lecturers’ lineup with Benedikt Gräler, Christian Autermann, and Markus Konkol. During the reception on Sunday, some of the lecturers and participants had their first opportunity to get in touch. This was followed by five days of Earth System Analysis training sessions and discussions with a focus on R, Python, and Julia.
KI:STE – First Successful Annual Meeting
The KI:STE Project recently held it’s first annual meeting in Cologne. The consortium met to present and discuss first results as well as brainstorm for the project’s second year agenda.
