Ride the senseBox:bike to the data-driven bicycle city

Ride the senseBox:bike to the data-driven bicycle city

Participate in the AtrAI Bikes workshop!

The senseBox:bike is an open-source sensor technology that collects environmental and traffic-related data while traveling. Using an innovative, AI-based approach, dangerous passing manoeuvres by cars, road conditions, particulate matter and temperature are measured on the move. Join the workshop and you can assemble the technology, try it out and discuss how this data can contribute to improving the safety of cyclists and the cycling infrastructure. If you would like to be part of this citizen science campaign, we will lend you the senseBox:bike for a measurement campaign at the end.

52°North at ITC

Several colleagues from 52°North traveled to our Dutch founding member, the ITC of the University of Twente, for a joint symposium. We had not been to the ITC since it moved to a new building. To grasp the dimensions of the Langezijds building, we were given a guided tour of the departments and labs. 52°North and the ITC departments gave an overview of current projects and research topics in preparation for the discussions on further joint activities and to identify commonalities and complementarities. During the afternoon, topic-specific break-out tables were set up for lively discussions. We came up with many ideas and identified concrete measures to shape our future collaboration. Many thanks goes to the ITC team for the very warm welcome, their hospitality and the fruitful exchange of exciting ideas!

Transforming bike commuting with real-time data

The new Atrai Bikes Project aims to transform urban planning by using Citizen Science to collect and analyze bicycle infrastructure data and ultimately improve the cycling infrastruture with the senseBox:bike, open data, and AI. This two-year endeavor, funded by the Ministry of Research and Education and FAPESP in Brazil, is a collaboration between re:edu and 52°North in Münster, Germany, and the Cordial Institute in São Paulo, in Brazil. The project kicks off with an upcoming UX workshop in São Paulo.
