Earth observation networks deliver a multitude of data capturing the state of the earth. The data sets delivered are of high value for scientists and other stakeholders from various domains and backgrounds. To facilitate access and integration of those data sets, Sensor Web technologies are becoming increasingly popular.

Observation data that can be handled in Sensor Web infrastructures may cover a broad variety of types. These range from air quality measurements, hydrological data and weather observations, to data collected by sea buoys or even complex autonomous systems, such as sea gliders or satellites.

Under the motto “Geospatial Sensor Webs”, the 52°North Open Innovation Network aims to provide a forum in which sensor web researchers and practitioners can present and discuss their ideas, use cases and solutions. The forum will be an opportunity to discuss the status and future directions of Sensor Web standards and technologies based on experiences in a variety of application domains.

The 2016 Workshop and Conference continues the series of 52°North workshops on Sensor Web technologies, which started in 2013. This year, we will foster a wider scientific exchange on the topic by complementing the workshop with a conference day.
