The 52°North Spatial Information Research GmbH is a non-profit company bridging the gap between research and application. Its shareholders are the University of Münster, Germany (26%), the University of Twente, The Netherlands (26%), the con terra GmbH, Germany (24%) and Esri Inc, USA (24%).
52°North was founded in 2006 and evolved from an initiative for open source software to an applied research institute.
IfGI (University of Münster) educates geoinformatic scientists and researches modeling spatio-temporal processes, semantic interoperability, spatial assistance systems, cognitive engineering and sensor networks.
con terra integrates intelligent Geo-IT solutions into the IT structures of its private sector and public administration customers.
ITC (University of Twente) is recognized worldwide for teaching, research and capacity development in the field of geo-information science and earth observation.
Esri is an international supplier of geographic information system software, web GIS and geodatabase management applications.
