Coordinating an Observation Network of Networks EnCompassing saTellite and IN-situ to fill the Gaps in European Observations

Time frame: 2/2015 - 1/2017

Website: http://connectingeo.net/Index.htm

Description: ConnectinGEO’s primary goal is to link existing coordinated Earth observation networks with science and technology (S&T) communities, the industry sector and the GEOSS and Copernicus stakeholders. The aim is to facilitate a broader and more accessible knowledge base to support the needs of the GEO Societal Benefit Areas (SBAs) and their users.

Next generation, Cost-effective, Compact, Multifunctional Web Enabled Ocean Sensor Systems Empowering Marine, Maritime and Fisheries Management

Time frame: 10.2013 to 09.2017

Website: http://www.nexosproject.eu/

Description: The Project aims to improve the temporal and spatial coverage, resolution and quality of marine observations through the development of cost-efficient innovative and interoperable in-situ senosrs deployable from multiple platforms, and Web Services for key domains and applications. This is acheived through the development of new, los-cost, compact and integrated sensors with multiple functionalities including the measurement of key parameters useful to a number of objectives, ranging from more precise monitoring and modelling of the marine environment to an improved assessment of fisheries. NeXOS will

  • deliver cost-efficient multifunctional sensors
  • launch a more efficient monitoring strategy
  • provide data in a standard format
  • implement a common data & sensor interface
  • reduce the need for human-operated quality control
  • calibrate and validate all new sensors and increase its reliability (e.g. antifouling management system).

52°North supports the project's development of a Modular and Reconfigurable Sensor System Interface, as well as Marine Sensor Web Architecture & Components.

Fixed Point Open Ocean Observatory

Time frame: 09.2013 to 08.2017

Website: http://www.fixo3.eu/

Description: The The Fixed point Open Ocean Observatory network seeks to integrate European open ocean fixed point observatories and to improve access to these key installations for the broader community. These will provide multidisciplinary observations in all parts of the oceans from the air-sea interface to the deep seafloor. The project focuses on

  • coordination activities
    • integrate and harmonize current procedures and processes,
    • link community across academia, industry, policy and public through outreach, knowledge exchange and training
  • support actions to offer
    • access to observatory infrastructures
    • free and open data services and products
  • joint research activities to innovate and enhance the current capability for multidisciplinary in situ ocean observation.

Time frame: 12.2014 to 01.2015

Website: n/a

Description: Advanced Graphs and Air Quality Analyses for the Belgian Interregional Cell for the Environment (IRCEL-CELINE) are needed for the JOAQUIN project. 52°North enhances the 52°North JavaScritp Client to support advanced types of graphs and air quality analyses using R.

Time frame: 11.2014 to 12.2014

Website: n/a

Description: The Rijksinstituut voor Volksgezondheid en Milieu (RIVM) plans to use the OGC Sensor Observation Service (SOS) interface to fulfill its e-Reporting obligations to the European Environment Agency. 52°North updates its SOS to accommodate the changes necessary for using the infrastructure for e-Reporting of air quality.
