Open GeoHub Summer School 2022 – a great success!

Open GeoHub Summer School 2022 – a great success!

KISTE project workshop: “Open Source solutions for Earth system data (R, OSGeo, Python)”

OpenGeoHub’s Summer School 2022 took place from August 28th – September 3rd virtually in person(!). As in the previous events, several experts from various disciplines around open source software and open data were invited to provide lectures for researchers who would like to improve their analysis and modeling skills. In total, 17 lecturers came to teach 40 participants. 52°North co-organized the event as part of the KI:STE project and contributed to the lecturers’ lineup with Benedikt Gräler, Christian Autermann, and Markus Konkol. During the reception on Sunday, some of the lecturers and participants had their first opportunity to get in touch. This was followed by five days of Earth System Analysis training sessions and discussions with a focus on R, Python, and Julia.

The OpenGeoHub Summer School takes place annually since 2010. Researchers and specialists who are particularly active (and successful) in developing open source software and open data, meet to discuss and help other researchers improve their analysis and modeling frameworks. The KISTE project supports this year’s hybrid event, which will include physical lectures and hackathons.
What to expect:
  • Live presentations and demos by leading R and OSGeo developers,
  • 5 days of Earth System Analysis training sessions and R / OSGeo tutorials
    • Including 1 day of R-Spatial workshops,
    • Including 1 focus day “extreme events”
  • Discussion panels and break-out rooms.
Check out the website and registration page! Registration is open through May 29th.

EDC Forum 2017

Big Data Analytics & GIS

The EDC Forum 2017 “Big Data Analytics in Geographic Information Systems” takes place on September 21 & 22, 2017 in Münster. It addresses topics with a scientific and technological focus in the field of modeling, analyzing and visualizing spatio-temporal phenomena based on large datasets and large streams of data.

The EDC Developer Forum is a joint workshop format with presentations, open discussions and practical workshops. It is designed to discuss concepts and technologies, to evaluate market-driven solutions, and to gain hands-on experience in applying those concepts and technologies.

52°North participates in the forum’s organization and provides presentations and a workshop.
