Introducing developers to open source software development
This year, 184 Mentoring Orgs reviewed 23,371 proposals from 131 countries. In the end, Google Summer of Code (GSoC 2026) has accepted 1,141 Contributors! 52°North is thrilled to be mentoring two contributors!
We welcome our new contributors, who will tackle bridging the gap between natural language input (e.g., via LLMs) and executable program code, as well as implementing a QGIS plugin for our weather routing tool (WRT).
- MCP for OGC APIs – Developing Model Context Protocols for the Suite of OGC APIs (contributor: Pranav Angrish, mentor: Benjamin Pross)
- Weather Routing Tool – QGIS Plugin (contributor: Shashaank Srivastava, mentors: Martin Pontius und Katharina Demmich)
After a period of community bonding, in which the contributors get to know their mentors and the organization better, coding begins.
Stay tuned for our contributors’ blogs!
