52°North was contracted by con terra, on behalf of the Marine Conservation Divison of the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN), to develop a novel, interoperable data sharing solution. This solution focuses on environmental data gathered by advanced measuring buoys and is part of the project titled “Expanding Data Management for the Digitization of Marine Biodiversity Data.”

This project encompassed tasks designed to establish an efficient data-sharing infrastructure. It comprised the selection of suitable standards, the creation of a mapping between these standards and the original data, and the implementation of an interoperable REST-API to receive, store, and share the measurement data. A central element of the architecture developed is the OGC API Connected Systems, which will serve as an interface enabling interoperable access to the collected observation data. 52°North primarily focused on conceptualizing the new infrastructure and providing exemplary demonstration services so project partners could explore and initiate the development of a viewer application.
