A Next Generation Disposition Tool for Wood Piles
Migrating HISGIS to benefit from the use of new technologies
Bentheimer-Holz GmbH has decades of expierence in dealing with the raw material wood and its processing. Within the sawmills, the focus is on individuality and quality. con terra GmbH has a long-standing customer relationship with Bentheimer-Holz GmbH and has been developing the HISGIS disposition tool to manage wood pile collection for more than a decade. To ensure the sustainability of HISGIS, a new technology stack will improve performance and provide new features. The new version moves from a desktop application to a modern Web application based on open source software.
Based on an existing detailed concept, 52°North developed the Web application to display existing wood piles in a data grid. It is now possible to create an optimized route for collection; the planner can filter wood piles, (pre-)select them for a quick check, and finally add them to a dedicated disposition order. The data grid is synchronized with a map that can be opened in a second window. Using both the data grid and the map, the planner is able to switch disposition context as needed to further improve the daily workflow.
52°North was actively involved in development decisions and technology setup. During development, 52°North extended the grid component of the modern web framework Vaadin to meet the given user requirements. Several web components and service implementations were developed for the map using the Open Pioneer Trails framework. The map and data grid communicate via the browser’s channel messaging API to enable synchronization in different browsing contexts.
