52°North's new Metadata Management Community is pleased to announce a new smartEditor release. This version 1.1 contains several new features, performance enhancements and bug fixes.
Features include:

  • improved support for INSPIRE Spatial Data Service types,
  • INSPIRE Discovery Service 3.0 support,
  • new additional metadata elements (alternate title,resource maintenance),
  • improved search for parent identifiers and coupled resources.

Winners of the Student Innovation Prize announced

52°North is pleased to announce the winners of the 52°North Student Innovation Prize for Geoinformatics 2011! This year’s jury has decided to award the following prizes:

  • First Prize: Tobias Kohr of the University of Technology Dresden for his paper “Development of a service-based Geoportal enabling the Mapping of Whale Watching”
  • Second Prize: Marcell Roth from the Insitute for Geoinformatics at the University of Muenster for his paper “Geographic Feature Pipes”.

First Prize is endowed with 1.500 EUR, plus reimbursement of expenses for presenting a paper at a Geoinformatics conference in 2011/2012 (travel, accommodation, fees) up to 1.000 EUR. Second Prize reimburses expenses for presenting a paper at a Geoinformatics conference in 2011/2012 (travel, accommodation, fees) up to 500 EUR.

ESRI 2011, München-Unterschleißheim

52°North recently participated in ESRI 2011 - "One World. Many solutions.", held May 24 - 26, 2011 in Munchen-Unterschleißheim. More than 1,200 participants attended a number of workshops, expert panels and topic-related forums in which the current state of GIS technology and GIS solutions was discussed. Highlights included the rapid development of the web, as well as mobile and cloud computing. 52°North presented its vision of cloud computing as a means of dealing with SDI's continuing performance and availability challenges.

 
WPS 2.0-RC7 avaliable

The Geoprocessing Community is pleased to announce the latest Web Processing Service release! The WPS 2.0-RC7 includes the following:

  • major code quality improvements including several bugfixes
  • new module for exposing Python script as processes
  • improved transactional WPS module
  • new pluggable framework for adding strategies for fetching referenced data
  • additional strategy for WCS 1.1.1 references.
