OGC approves SOS 2.0 Standard |

52°North is pleased to announce that the SOS 2.0 specification has become an official OGC standard. Dedicated committment to the development of interoperable standards has paid off for the SOS 2.0 editorial team and members of the 52°North Sensor Web Community - Arne Bröring (SOS 2.0 SWG Chair), Christoph Stasch and Johannes Echterhoff. The SOS 2.0 specification constitutes evolutionary fine tuning which started in December 2008 and has incorporated constructive feedback of the many 52°North SOS implementation users.
The 52°North Sensor Web Community has wasted no time in implementing the SOS 2.0 specification. A prototype is in place and developments continue. |

52°North has been chosen from a pool of 406 applications to be one of 180 open source projects to participate as a mentoring organization in this year’s Google Summer of Code. GSoC is a global program that offers students stipends to write code for Open Source projects. Stipend recipients receive $ 5.000,- for 3 months of software development.

The Geoprocessing Community announces that the OSM2NetworkDataset V 1.1.1 can be used for ArcView. This Java application converts OpenStreetMap (OSM) data for use in network analyses in the ArcGIS extension Network Analyst. It is designed to generate transportation networks for any mode of transportation and any region. The generated networks are based on OSM attributes, such as restrictions, one-way roads, turn restrictions, point barriers, and maximum speed.

52°North partner ITC participates in the the Sixth World Water Forum - Time for Solutions from March 12 - 17, 2012 in Marseille, France. The Forum strives to tackle the challenges of the world and to place water in a high position on all political agendas.
ITC particpates at the Netherlands Water Partnership pavilion, informing the public about research & capacity development in water information management with a focus on the GEONetCast developments and activities. Additional topics cover education and capacity development in earth observation/GIS and water resources. Furthermore, ITC holds a Tiger Capacity Building Facility side event, during which research projects results are presented, and participates in the launch of the TIGER NET, a program designed to develop and complement water observation and information systems for monitoring water resources with EO and provide capacity building and training of African water authorities and technical centers.
