52°North Security API implements a number of authentication schemes that can be used for general purpose. The most prominent user is the Web Security Services (WSS) that requires users to authenticate before they can access a proteceted service.

Further more, the implementation of authentication schemes can be used in other applications as well, eg. to protect access to a web site.
