Registration
GEONETCast
Users interested in receiving products and services delivered via GEONETCast should register with a GEONETCast network provider covering their geographical location. To register for the service provided by EUMETCast (EUMETCast-Europe, EUMETCast-Africa, EUMETCast-America), complete the online registration form. First select the appropriate data service here.
To register for FengYunCast reception, please contact the Chinese Meteorological Administration.
European Space Agency Data Dissemination System
Users interested in receiving the ENVISAT data and products can obtain further information and access to the DDS system here. If you want to receive ENVISAT data, you must first submit a project or registration to the ESA website to be authorised. If you are a PI or Co-PI for projects that require Envisat data, you are already authorized to use the data. Otherwise, you have to submit a project or a simple registration.
Reception Components
GEONETCast
The components needed to receive the GEONETCast data are listed in the Reception Station Components document (GNC_reception_station components.pdf).
Further additional details are provided in the EUMETSAT's Broadcast System for Environmental Data Technical Description (EUM TD 15_v 3.2_05_Sep_2004.pdf).
European Space Agency Data Dissemination System
The components needed to receive the DDS over Africa (using C-band) are basically the same as for GEONETCast (see also GNC_reception_station components.pdf), only another type of DVB board is used. A listing of suggested items for Ku reception (over Europe) include:
- Antenna: 120 cm offset antenna
- LNB: Universal LNB 0,2 dB - with:
- Input frequency range
- Low band: 10.7 - 11.7 GHz
- High band: 11.7 - 12.75 GHz
- Local Oscillator
- Frequency Low band: 9.75 GHz
- Frequency High band: 10.6 GHz
- Cable: DG 113 coax cable 75 Ohm
- Connector: F
Parameters to be set in order to receive the Envisat DDS data over Europe
- Satellite: Eutelsat W2A 10 degrees EAST
- Satellite Frequency: 12.621 GHz
- Symbolrate: 5732 KSymb/sec
- FEC: 5/6
- Polarisation: Horizontal
- PIDs: 230 and 231 (decimal)
Set up
The various steps to set-up a DDS reception station can be summarized as follows:
- Send the project/registration number to ESA
- Install and point the antenna to W2A (Eutelsat, Europe –Ku band) or Atlantic Bird 3 (Africa – C Band)
- Put the card into your PC and then use the DDS installation CD
- Send the MAC address and static IP to ESA
- ESA will send keys
- Configure the interface (described in the user manual) and at the end you should lock DDS signal
- ESA will address your receiver with the data
- You should be able to receive the data at your ground reception station
Data received
In Ku band (over Europe) through DDS transmit the following data is disseminated:
