The Professorship of Geoinformation Systems is an interdisciplinary institution at the Department of Geosciences of the Technische Universität Dresden. Prof. Dr. Lars Bernard and his team focus on various R&D topics within Geoinformation Science. The current scientific activities target the design, development and establishment of geoinformation services for spatio-temporal modeling.

The development of GI software as a proof of concept is vital to the research activities. The research group has been cooperating with 52°North for several years, both contributing to the collaborative software development process, as well as building on concepts and software from other contributors. 52°North serves as a platform for the organization of collaboration between partners - researchers, industry and end users - and disseminates results to a broad user community.
