2011-10-06 This year’s INTERGEO - the world’s largest event for geodesy, geoinformation and land management – welcomed over 16,000 visitors from 80 countries. Once again, it provided a great opportunity for all participants to present and discuss current technological trends and practical developments. Hot topics were Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDIs), sensors and 3D mapping. 52°North’s focus on innovative applications in Sensor Web and Geoprocessing was right on target. 52°North state of the art Sensor Web technology supporting seamless integration of live sensor data into Spatial Data Infrastructures via OGC Sensor Observation Services was in high demand. 52°North presented its impressive suite of open source tools to enable easy and efficient visualization and analysis of time series information. Applications in water management, environmental monitoring and meteorology confirm the benefit of this innovative technology and point the way for other fields of application. 52°North noted an increase in the demand for geo-based web processing technologies. Together with the Technische Universität Dresden – now a partner of the 52°North Partner R & D Network – 52°North demonstrated how to bring algorithms to data via the WPS “Appstore”. This is extremely useful in the case of large volumes of data. A process (e.g. hydrological model, EO algorithm or geostatistical function) is made available as an “App”, integrated in private WPS execution environments, and the results included in applications, such as ArcMap and Model Builder. ArcGIS users were impressed with 52°North’s OSM2NetworkDataset process. They can now create traffic networks from OpenStreetMap geodata according to their individual requirements.
