For its 6th year in a row, 52°North has been chosen from a pool of 400 applications to be one of 201 open source projects to participate as a mentoring organization in the Google Summer of Code 2017! The Google Summer of Code (GSoC) is a global program that offers students stipends to write code for Open Source projects. This year's stipend recipients receive $ 6000 for 3 months of successful software development.

Students who have been accepted are paired with mentors from 52°North partner organizations, thus gaining valuable exposure to real-world software development scenarios and the opportunity for employment in areas related to their academic pursuits. In turn, 52°North projects are able to more easily identify and draw in new developers, as well as improve or extend their software projects.

52°North has project ideas from all communities to connect with prospective developers of its Open Source software from all over the world. The overall goals are to improve usability of products and to extend the user base to new domains. Students interested in writing code for software developed by the 52°North communities can find more information at Student Application opens on March 20, 2017.
